OSTEOPATHY

Osteopathy focuses on the complete assessment, diagnosis and treatment of any musculoskeletal dysfunction using hands on techniques. Osteopathic treatment is aimed to improve the body’s own capacity to heal itself when affected by issues involving the skeletal or muscular systems.

“The body is a unit” is a fundamental philosophy for osteopathic medicine as it involves the consideration of the entire body to help improve the structure and the function for the individual.

Osteopaths are trained to identify obstructions affecting the movement of the body and intern treat these areas to help facilitate the body’s ability to heal itself. By removing obstructions such as postural strain, inflammation, joint restriction or acute and chronic injury it will help accelerate the bodies self-healing process and return the patient to optimum health.

The application of hands on techniques improves the texture and tone of the muscles, stability and strength of joints, increased nerve function and blood circulation. These systems play a significant roll in the healing process and the osteopath will devise a strategy to help recognize and treat these restrictions in order to reduce pain, improve general health or enhance performance.

Osteopaths are primary health care providers and you DO NOT need a referral for a consultation. We proudly accept anyone on the Veteran’s Affairs scheme with a white or gold card. You may approach your local doctor for a referral only if you are involved with Work Cover or the Enhance Primary Care Program for chronic pain. Please contact your GP for information on these plans to help with a comprehensive treatment program.
